| Franklin Pens by John Roede |
John Roede, collector (with family ties to the development of Parker's aerometric 51 and original
61) and published author on fountain pen history, spoke on the history of Philadelphia's Franklin Pen Co and the
families that turned it into a minor institution.
Because so much had been written about the large pen companies,
he was drawn to researching the only major hometown Philadelphia manufacturer - Franklin Pen Co.

Turnout was great. Although there
were more people than fit at the conference table the room was plenty big enough to hold everyone.
People brought
plenty of pens, both modern and vintage, for each other to ogle.

Review of the March 8 Meeting
Our speaker was Alan Shaw, owner/artisan of Shaw Pens. He has been creating fine writing instruments for four years.
Alan explained
the steps he takes to construct the pens he sells. He also offered a new pen he is making to anyone in attendance who
was willing to use it and to write a critique on it. He was looking for two, he got six!
Another part of the meeting
was the meet and greet. A couple from England was there and they were impressed by what they saw. We know that Richard and Al had
an exchange -Richard gave up two of his beautiful pens and Al gave up some money. Al says he hopes Richard isn't
sorry he sold them and that he promises to give them a very good home.
